Dr. Zou is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Arkansas (UA) and holds a 21st Century Professorship in Mechanical Engineering. She received her Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology and has 26 years engineering experiences in academia, traditional and high tech industries. Dr. Zou directs the Nano Mechanics and Tribology Laboratory (NMTL) at the UA. Her current research interests are in the areas of nano-surface-engineering, nanotribology, and nanomechanics. Her lab has developed a variety of nano-engineered surfaces (NESs) – surfaces engineered with nanoscale topographies and/or chemistries, to reduce friction and wear in tribological applications, to change surface wetting properties for anti-fogging and self-cleaning in a variety of applications including application on solar panels, and to facilitate cell adhesion or provide antimicrobial property in biomedical applications. Currently, there are several openings in her group. You are welcome to drop her an email (mzou@uark.edu) if you meet the admission requirement, especially if you are enthusiastic about experimental research and have materials and mechanics background. Potential dissertation topics will be in the areas of: (1) Mechanics of nanostructures, (2) Low friction durable coatings, (3) 3D laser lithography, (4) 3D printing, (5) Nanoparticle Lubrication.
Graduate Research Assistantships Available at the University of Arkansas
Multiple Graduate Research Assistantships (GRAs) are available starting Fall 2015 for students who will pursue Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering (MEEG) or Microelectronics-Photonics (MicroEP) Program at the University of Arkansas.
People with M.S. or B.S degrees in Mechanical Engineering or Materials Science are encouraged to apply for the GRAs. Qualifications include having strong interest in scientific research, good academic standing, and excellent communication skills.
Research will be in the area of Nano-surface-engineering, Micro/Nanotribology, and Nanomechanics using advanced fabrication and characterization techniques.
The minimum application requirements for PhD students can be found from the MEEG websiteor the MicroEP website. Please indicate in your application that you are interested in working with Prof. Min Zou.
Prospective Ph.D. students are also encouraged to apply for the Various Fellowships.
